Part Seven
What Is in the Water
So far this book has treated water as something to move, heat, stop and drain. This part looks at the water itself. Most of what matters here cannot be seen, which is why the part leans harder on official sources than any other, and why it keeps asking you to get a number before you spend money. We begin with the yearly report your supplier must send you, and then take up lead, which gets a chapter of its own. Hard water follows, a nuisance rather than a danger. Then come the filters and softeners sold to deal with all of it, and what each can and cannot do. If your water comes from a well of your own, the last chapter is for you.
